Description

This paper presents the results of an experimental study of in-tube absorption in tubes of three types: two plain tubes and one fluted. All the tests were performed using ammonia-water as the absorption pair. Test results indicate that significant enhancement can be achieved using fluted tubes and the enhancement factor increases with liquid flow rate. The analysis indicates that the inside heat transfer coefficient is increased by a factor of 5.9 for liquid Reynolds number above 4000, and overall heat transfer coefficient by a factor of 2.3. Further studies are required to obtain optimal geometric characteristics of fluted tubes. It was also found that the heat transfer-limited model cannot predict the absorption phenomena accurately.
