Description

Presents a case history of commissioning a direct digital control/facilities control and monitoring (DDC/FCMS) in a new multi-building complex. A major international airline constructed a new maintenance base at the new Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, Texas. The facility consists of eight major buildings totalling 1,750,000 ft2 and five smaller facilities plus all of the utilities required to operate the facility. All the buildings used DDC controls with pneumatic operators for valves and dampers. The FCMS connects to all buildings through fibre optic cabling located in an underground duct structure. Most of the buildings were operational by October 1991 and the first aircraft was moved into the hangar then, more that two months ahead of schedule. The commissioning process was handled by a committee made up of the airline project manager, the consulting engineer and the testing and balancing firm.
