Summarizes the results of a literature search that focussed on various filtration aspects of microbiological aerosols in buildings. After collecting, categorising and reviewing a large body of literature dealing with microbial contamination of indoor air, tables were prepared that summarise the identification of microorganisms found in indoor air, diseases caused by these organisms, source of microbiological contamination, modes of transmission and control strategies used in HVAC systems. Addresses specific questions concerning filter media, microbial growth and filter efficiency.
