Description

This paper presents the monitored results of hot water usage and heat recovery heat pump performance at two recreational facilities. The hot water usage results are important in that water use in recreational facilities is not addressed in ASHRAE HVAC Equipment and Systems chapter 54, “Service Water Heating.” In recreational buildings, service water heating is often the single largest energy user within the building.

The heat pump monitoring results are important in that the heat pump represents a viable system to significantly reduce water heating costs. The heat pump is a simple prepackaged system that extracts heat from exhaust ventilation air and heats process or domestic water.
