Description

Control systems play a major role in building operations, impacting energy efficiency and thermal comfort. Configuring these systems properly has proven to be inconsistent. We proposed a method of self-configuration for the control system (sequences) by interacting with a knowledgebase. An adequate sequence of operation is one of the keys to achieving success. However, it is relatively difficult to efficiently and correctly configure the control system towards energy efficiency and comfort in operation. First, narrative control sequences provided by guidelines require control engineers to interpret and program into sequence codes. During the interpretation process, it would create errors due to syntactic ambiguity. Second, few methods has been developed to capture new expertise and knowledge gained from field operations. This creates barriers for sharing new and useful control strategies. The self-configuration method is illustrated through a case study. Primary result indicates that the self-configuration method might be able to produce the control sequence in a way that would be easier to standardize. It can facilitate adoption of more advanced algorithm and heuristic methods for control application.
