Description
Space-conditioning systems for residential use vary with bothlocal and application factors. Local factors include energy source availability(present and projected) and price; climate; socioeconomic circumstances; andavailability of installation and maintenance skills. Application factorsinclude housing type, construction characteristics, and building codes. As aresult, many different systems are selected to provide combinations of heating, cooling, humidification, dehumidification, ventilation, and air filtering. Thischapter emphasizes the more common systems for space conditioning of bothsingle-family (i.e., traditional site-built and modular or manufactured homes)and multifamily residences. Low-rise multi-family buildings generally followsingle-family practice because constraints favor compact designs; HVAC systemsin high-rise apartment, condominium, and dormitory buildings are often ofcommercial types similar to those used in hotels. Retrofit and remodeling constructionalso adopt the same systems as those for new construction, but site-specificcircumstances may call for unique designs.SystemsEquipment SizingSingle-Family ResidencesMultifamily ResidencesManufactured HomesNo. of Pages: 10
