Energy management in buildings is the control of energy useand cost while maintaining indoor environmental conditions to provide comfortand to fully meet functional needs. This chapter provides guidance onestablishing an effective, ongoing energy management program, as well as informationon planning and implementing energy management projects. The energy managershould understand how energy is used in the building, to manage it effectively. There are opportunities for savings by reducing the unit price of purchasedenergy, and by improving the efficiency and reducing the use ofenergy-consuming systems. Water/sewer costs and use may be included in theenergy management activity. This could be called “utility management,” but “energymanagement” is used in this chapter.Energy and Water ManagementCommunicationsEnergy and Water Accounting SystemsAnalyzing Energy and Water DataSurveys and AuditsImproving Discretionary OperationsEnergy- and Water-Efficiency MeasuresImplementing Energy-Efficiency MeasuresMonitoring ResultsEvaluating Success and Establishing New GoalsBuilding Emergency Energy Use ReductionNo. of Pages: 18
