Description

ASHRAE Standard 15-2007, Section 7.5.3, allows the useof Group A3 refrigerants where approved by the authorityhaving jurisdiction (AHJ). Small portable cooling appliancesand/or self-contained refrigeration systems are generally notregulated by the model codes that form the basis for most localregulation (see the 2006 International Mechanical Code, Section106.2). Requiring specific local approvals from the AHJfor systems using small amounts of flammable refrigerantcharge would be impractical, and inconsistent with nationalcode practice. This addendum allows the use of such systemsthrough an exception to Section 7.5.3.
