Andy recounts the story of VictoriaDrummond, an unusual and inspiring woman from the history of engineering. Heincludes the story of her sailing to the United States on a Panamanian freighterattacked by enemy bombers during World War Two. The ship survived the half hourbombing after she single-handedly managed to raise the output of the engines,enabling the ship to reach 12.5 knots, nearly 40% faster than it had ever gonebefore. For her part in this remarkable escape, she was awarded the MBE and theLloyd’s War Medal for Bravery at Sea.
