Description
Ventilation is perhaps the most important single element of an HVAC system that influences both indoor air quality and energy efficiency. ASHRAE 62-2001 establishes various outdoor air requirements by zone usage for health care facilities. System designers are faced with many choices with which to manage this outside air and select the right system for the lobby, general areas, patient rooms, operating rooms, etc. Outside air management devices are available that can help ensure ASHRAE 62 standards are maintained throughout the supply air range of VAV systems and save energy at the same time. THis paper explores these various control options, compares alternatives, and reviews normal maintenance, cycling, and performance accuracy verification. Multiple air monitors will be discussed, producing a checks-and-balance system maintaining constant ventilation flow rates.
