Description
Part 1, of this paper presented the development of a method for determining the selection factor for steam and hot water heating systems under conditions where a temperature setback is used. The selection factor is defined as the net capacity of the heating system divided by the design heat loss of the building. The information presented in that paper enables a designer to calculate the required parameters for a specific building and system which will permit the use of the method presented.
Because many assumptions were involved in developing the model of the building and system, it was felt that some attempt at experimental verification should be made. Also, since the procedure for determining selection factor must be straightforward in its use if it is to be accepted by practicing engineers, it seemed worthwhile to attempt to generalize and simplify the procedure. Both of these objectives were accomplished, and are presented in this paper.
