Description

Many investigations have been carried out on circular fins, but little information is available on fins of different geometries. Zabronsky developed an approximate analytical solution to the partial differential equation governing heat conduction in square fins mounted on round tubes. He assumed, however, that the coefficient of heat transfer was constant over the entire fin surface. Rich4 developed the section method which is .an approximate method for calculating the efficiency of symmetrical rectangular fins of constant thickness. He also assumed the. coefficient of heat transfer to be constant over the fin surface.

This experimental work was undertaken to examine the variations in the coefficient of heat transfer for a single circular fin in cross flow at different Reynolds numbers and to compare the results with a square fin under identical conditions.
