Description
While the possible impact of refrigerant leaks and subsequentdispersion in an occupied space pertains to a wide varietyof applications, dynamic models that accurately describedispersion phenomena in the built environment have not beenextensively explored in the literature. This paper builds onpreviously published work (Laughman et al. 2015) by assessingthe performance of well-mixed models via a comparison tocomputational fluid dynamics simulations and studying thebehavior of refrigerant dispersion in multiple connectedspaces. Results indicate that the well-mixed models are notable to capture variation in the geometric parameters accuratelyand should be used cautiously. The studies of the dynamicsin multiple spaces highlight the importance of the locationof ventilation sources and sinks.
