Description
Nowadays, refrigerant R-410A is commonly used in the air-conditioners and heat pumps. However, this refrigerant presents a performance deficiency at high ambient temperature conditions compared to its predecessor R-22 which, under the Montreal Protocol, will soon be phased out in article 5 countries. R-410A has a relatively low critical temperature and a reduced latent heat at high condensing temperatures compared to R-22. Not to mention that the GWP value of the R-410A is 2100 raising environmental concerns globally. AHRI launched its Low-GWP Alternative Refrigerants Evaluation Program (Low-GWP AREP), to identify and evaluate promising alternative refrigerants for major product categories including air-conditioners. Nine low GWP refrigerants were/are being evaluated as alternatives to R-410A for air-conditioning applications. As part of the program, two systems using a total of four low-GWP refrigerants were tested under the ambient condition of 115°F (46°C). These tested refrigerants including the baseline R-410A show 6%~18% capacity reduction and 18~36% COP reduction at the ambient temperature of 115°F (46°C) when compared to those measured at 95°F (35°C).
