Report / Survey by ASHRAE, 1970

Category:

Description

It is known that the heating industry contributes in some measure to the overall problem of air pollution, a subject of increasing national concern. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of this contribution and to define the problem and the potential solutions.

This may be carried out in more than one phase, including a literature study to be followed by field studies.

This report is on the initial Phase I only.

The purpose and scope of this study was:

1. By means of a literature survey, to determine what knowledge exists on:

a. the amount of air pollution generated by residential and small commercial gas and oil furnaces.
b. how much reduction could be achieved through proper burner adjustment and maintenance or the need for active air/fuel ratio control.

2. To recommend a field test program needed to supply missing information.
