Description

A validated analytical procedure is described that identifies and quantifies organic acids that have collected on desiccant materials in filter driers in refrigeration systems to determine overall and continued health of refrigerating systems. This research uses refrigeration grade desiccants and includes type 3A and 4A molecular sieve and three alumina trihydrates. The project investigates the recovery of free fatty acids (FFA) trapped by desiccant alone and not FFA formed during the analytical stages. FFA formation from polyolester (POE) and FFA recovery from desiccant contact is shown.
