Description

Although solar radiation data are now available for many localities, difficulties are sometimes encountered in utilizing these measurements. They consist primarily of total radiation on a horizontal surface and a knowledge of the diffuse component or the total solar radiation incident on an inclined surface is often required. To obtain more accurate methods for calculating the diffuse radiation incident on a surface, especially an inclined surface, it is necessary to make extensive experimental studies of the diffuse radiation component. A new technique for measuring the characteristics of scattered radiation must be used to avoid past intensity distribution assumptions; therefore, the experimental investigation becomes a study of the anisotropy of diffuse solar radiation.
