Description

Data showing the combined effects of refrigerant R123 condensate inundation and vapour shear on the shell-side heat transfer coefficient are presented for four enhanced tube geometries. The test bundle consists of five instrumented tubes surrounded by inactive tubes in a five-by-five staggered tube arrangement with a horizontal pitch of 22.2mm (0.875in.) and a vertical pitch of 19.1mm (0.75in.). Simulations of the effect of inundation up to a depth of 25 rows are presented at three different vapour velocities. The data were obtained at a saturation temperature of 35degC (95degF) and at heat fluxes between approximately 17,500 and 31,000 W/m2 (5,550 and 9,830Btu/[h.ft2 ). Four separate tube geometries were tested – a 1,024-fpm (26-fpi) tube; a low-fin, 1,475-fpm (40-fpi) tube; and two enhanced tubes, designated the Tu-Cii and the G-SC.
