Hospital buildings are the most energy consuming buildings due to their continuous operation and the need to provide healthy and safe environment for the best treatment and well-being of their inhabitants. Energy management presupposes energy recording. Many methods have been proposed according to new legislation of official energy audits and certificates, as measuring the energy intensity by m2, by bed, by employee, failing though to imprint exact pictures for benchmarking the operation and the actions that must be taken to achieve maximum energy savings in hospitals from country to country. In this work it has been tried through several surveys to investigate the energy profiles of hospitals in the area of Central and Western Macedonia in Greece. Except of the actions mentioned that have or will take place towards the decarbonization of buildings according to their energy certificates, a comparison of hospitals has been made to reveal why and how it would be possible to achieve sustainable hospital buildings maximizing health services simultaneously.
