Description
Computers ranging in size from small personal computers to large supercomputers are used in various aspects of HVAC education. Computer use at the undergraduate level in courses and laboratories and use at the graduate level in experimental and theoretical research projects is reviewed. Personal computers are used for system simulation, laboratory and field data acquisition systems, and word processors. Mainframes and supercomputers become necessary for simulating fluid flow and heat and mass transfer associated with complex three-dimensional geometries. Examples given include a refrigeration cycle simulation program, a laboratory computer based data acquisition and reduction system and the use of a personal computer to determine airflow patterns in an industrial clean room.
