Description

A Northwest electric utility is currently conducting a comprehensive research project on energy use and energy conservation in commercial buildings. This project involves collecting hourly measurements of electricity consumption by end use to support conservation program planning and load forecasting efforts for the Utility’s service area. In this paper, the results of the conservation analysis of the two office buildings selected for study are compared with earlier estimates developed by the Utility to guide the planning of new conservation programs. These comparisons indicate that the two office buildings in the study consumed less energy than was estimated in 1982 for office buildings, and heating was a smaller share of the total load. Also, the actual magnitude and the costs of energy savings were different for these buildings than had been estimated from analysis of building prototypes.
