Report / Survey by ASHRAE, 1995

Category:

Description

A review was made of published literature on indoor air quality issues related to construction/renovation activities. An annotated bibliography including 131 references was produced. Telephone interviews were conducted with practitioners familiar with the issues in this area. The study found that although a majority of the published work dealing with construction or renovation airborne contaminant control refers to hospitals (microbial particles) or asbestos abatement (fibers), construction and particularly renovation of all building types should include protocols for controlling airborne contaminants. Control measures have been developed for many specific activities. However, their effectiveness and cost are not well documented, even for many of the recommended asbestos mitigation techniques. Good communication about IAQ issues between all parties involved with the work is strongly encouraged. A recommended sequence for implementation is developed.
